Our club recently honored two of Homestead’s brightest students with the Student of the Month Award.  Please read the stories below about these future super stars.

Elizabeth Wilkerson:
Elizabeth (Lizzie) Wilkerson was honored on 3/16/2021 as our March Student of the Month.  Lizzie joined our club meeting via Zoom, along with her grandmother, Mary Puccinelli of Rolling Meadows Illinois.  Lizzie is the daughter of James & Suzanna Wilkerson of Thiensville.

Lizzie is currently a senior at Homestead High School where she is very involved with a number of clubs and organizations.  She is the Co-President of the Drama Club, in which she has participated in throughout her high school career and was chosen as the Assistant Director / Stage Manager for Homestead’s winter musical both her junior and senior year.  She has acted as the Co-Secretary and Co-Publicist for the Drama Club and Secretary of the National Honor Society.  Lizzie spent her sophomore year as an exchange student in Marsala Italy. Her family has also hosted exchange students at their home in Thiensville.

Lizzie’s community service includes volunteering at Camp Minikani for the past 3 summers.  Camp Minikani has been a place near and dear to her heart and she has enjoyed giving back to an organization that is such an important part of her community. She has assisted with serving meals, directing parking and leading skills, such as archery.  She has also volunteered for the Optimist Club tree lot and various jobs within Homestead’s Theatre Department.

She is still considering which university she will attend this fall and will be choosing between Tulane, Northwestern, University of Minnesota, Columbia, University of Southern California and Northeastern.  She will pursue a degree in Political Science or International Relations with hopes to then pursue a degree in medicine.  Lizzie, we truly appreciate all you have done to support your school and community and we thank you for your “Service Above Self”.  Good luck to you!

Hannah Kennedy:
On Tuesday, March 2, 2021, we presented Hannah Kennedy with the February Student of the Month Award.  Hannah is the daughter of Matthew and Teresa Kennedy, of Mequon, and her mom was able to join her during our weekly Zoom meeting.

Hannah has been very involved with the AYUDA Club at Homestead for the past two years and is currently the President of AYUDA.  AYUDA is a club that works to aid those in the underprivileged Hispanic communities in Milwaukee and caters to her passions of helping those in need as well as utilizing her Spanish skills.  She has volunteered by tutoring and working with younger students and organizing food drives.  Hannah is also a leader of the sponsorship board for Relay for Life.

Hannah has distinguished herself as quite the journalist.  She is the Editor in Chief of Highlander Publications and oversees the yearbook, literary magazine, social media and online news site.  She also interns for the News Graphic.  Her talent in journalism has earned her the Al Neuharth Free Spirit Journalism Award and she was also selected as a finalist for the Wisconsin Journalist of the Year Award.

Hannah will be attending the University of Maryland Philip Merrill College of Journalism this fall.  Hannah, congratulations and we thank you for your “Service Above Self”.  Keep up the great work!
