Tuesday, December 6th is the absolute final day to contribute to our Annual Food Drive.  Team Captains Kirgues, Von Rueden, and Lind have been encouraging their members to donate food and/or non-perishable items for Family Sharing of Ozaukee County as they engage in a friendly competition to see who can have bragging rights for the next year.

 

Results as of the end of November are as follows:

 

Team Kirgues leads with a total of 663

Team Lind comes in second place with 487

Bringing up the rear is Team Von Rueden with 473

Alla Kadadha is the Wisconsin’s Rotary Global Grant Scholar of 2015. She has recently completed a masters degree in Conflict Resolution in Divided Societies at King’s College London. During her studies she specialized in Middle Eastern conflicts including Palestine/Israel, Syria, and Iraq. Join us for a special treat at our December 20th meeting.  Ryan Hart, son of Rotarian Bill Hart, will join us for a delightful celebration of holiday music, including a sing along of your favorite holiday music.

November is Rotary Foundation month, and two T-M Rotarians made that a reality by accepting a special Paul Harris Recognition during the month. 

 

In the photo on the left, Greg Huffman listens as President MacFarlane shares some facts about the Rotary Foundation.  Huffman told club members, "The Rotary Foundation is the most important contribution I make every year."

Dr. Patrick McGrath, licensed psychologist and Assistant VP at AMITA, and Clinical Director at the Center for Anxiety and OCD at Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital, asks club members, "If I said don't think about a pink elephant.  What would you think about?" Likewise, telling someone who suffers from PTSD to "Stop thinking about it" doesn't work.  Victims need to confront their fear of a memory.  Victims often turn to drugs/alcohol or isolate themselves from friends and family to avoid being reminded of the trauma they suffered.  

 

With the advent of improved armor, some veterans today return from war physically okay, but as a different person because of brain trauma from IEP explosions.  McGrath works to desensitize vets through a program of gradually engaging them in the emotionality of the memory.
